I was born in the panhandle of Idaho, lived in Washington state for the last 25 years and now my journey has landed me here on the Big Island. I began my family very early in life and have been blessed with three outstanding children. Our family loves the water — we scuba dive and have spent the last decade adventuring on a boat. My favorite daily routine is coffee and hugs from my little one. My middle child has been on the Big Island for the last two years studying and my eldest is trying to figure out what his future holds. Life in the cold weather started to make us stagnant so we decided to move west to keep us active and enrich our lives.
I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Social Science at Washington State University in 2014 and have been working in the medical field, as a medical assistant, with the University of Washington Family Medicine Residency Clinic since 2008. This work has allowed me to see a variety of people's needs including the need for advocacy.
I wanted to expand my scope and was drawn to midwifery after attending my nephew and neighbor's birth. I was lucky to find obstetric training in my own backyard and completed Bastyr's Master of Science in Midwifery degree with a specialty in Botanical Medicine in 2019. While practicing midwifery I educated midwifery students at Commonsense Childbirth School of Midwifery for two years and have precepted 10 midwifery graduates.
I bring you a decade of midwifery experience with thousands of families served, over 500 birth attendances, and a lifetime of education. I want to be the provider you get to know during pregnancy that supports you through your birth and postpartum. I do work with midwife assistants in the community because having two medically trained professionals at a birth is safer for parents and babies.
I offer families evidence-based knowledge, but I expect that they will make the best decisions for themselves and their babies. I am an expert on healthy and low-risk pregnancy and childbirth. That being said, if the time comes that I am unsure whether something is normal or not, I am confident in reaching out to those who are experts on the abnormal aspects of pregnancy and childbirth.
Midwifery in Hawaii state has evolved to allow midwives, who practice out of the hospital, to become licensed. The state has agreed to a drug legend that allows midwives to carry medications for management of emergencies, antibiotic prophylaxis for GBS (Group B Streptococcus), oxygen and prophylaxis for newborns.
Birth is not a medical event. It is a life event.
Evidence-based practice
I stay current with the best available research and integrate it with clinical experience and your personal values — never one without the other.
Informed consent, always
Every decision belongs to you. I provide clear, honest information at every step so you can make choices that feel right for your body and your family.
Continuity of care
You will know your midwife before labor begins. The relationship we build during pregnancy is foundational to safe, satisfying care at birth and beyond.
Knowing when to reach out
I am an expert on healthy, low-risk pregnancy. When something falls outside the normal, I am confident in collaborating with specialists — because that is what good care looks like.
